MUMBAI: Burglars stole cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 10.12 lakh from a Goregaon (E) flat on Tuesday.
The theft took place at the residence of Vibhav Naik, a resident of Rajnigandha society, in the evening. The Naiks were visiting their friends in Andheri. Unidentified burglars entered the house after breaking the door lock and latch. Once inside, they stole gold jewellery worth Rs 8.81 lakh, silver articles worth Rs 34,000 and Rs 97,000 in cash from the locker.
When the Naik returned, he found that the house had been ransacked and immediately contacted the police.
Police officials said that building where Naik stays does not have a lock on its entrance gate nor had a security guard been hired. Cops are on the lookout for the burglars.
In Borivli, a man tried to snatch a gold chain from a woman on Rokadia Lane around 11.15 pm on Sunday. The accused, Jayesh Dhas, was nabbed shortly.
In Byculla, a man snatched two gold chains from a senior citizen on Sunday, but was caught later. Vandana Bhandari (60), the complainant, told the police that the accused came up from behind her and snatched her chains collectively worth Rs 52,100.
The Byculla police caught the accused, Mohammad Bachari, and recovered the two chains.
